Clarity Week 16
Genesis 37-41
Throughout May, we want to intentionally focus our prayers to the Musi people on Sundays and in our small groups. This is 1 of 10 potential unreached people groups that our missionaries could eventually engage in Indonesia! Start your group off by praying together for this people group! Below is some information on the Musi and prayer prompts.
Prayer for the Unreached People Group
You are the Lord, and that is your name! I pray your glory not be given to another. I pray that the Musi people will not give your praise to idols. Isaiah 42:8
Lord, send missionaries to declare your glory among the Musi people, Your marvelous deeds among the Musi people. Psalm 96:3
Lord, I pray that “all the Musi people you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; I pray the Musi people will bring glory to Your name.” Psalm 86:9
Lord, may You be exalted over all the Musi people, Your glory above the heavens. Psalm 113:4

Summary of Genesis 37-41:
Joseph, the youngest and favorite son of Jacob, is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers at age 17 and taken to Egypt. He serves in Potiphar’s house and is later imprisoned after being falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, who constantly pressured him into sexual sin. Despite the hardships he faces, we see over and over in Scripture that “the Lord was with Joseph,” and God’s presence brings him favor wherever he goes. In prison, Joseph interprets dreams, which eventually leads to his rise to power when he interprets Pharaoh’s dreams about an upcoming famine. Pharaoh appoints Joseph second-in-command over Egypt, entrusting him to manage the land’s resources.
Question Bank
Read Genesis 39
One of the greatest promises of God is that if we are saved, He is with us in all circumstances, just like we see in Joseph’s life.
- How has this truth brought you comfort in the past?
- Is there something you are walking through right now where you’re having to cling to this promise?
When we look at Scripture (particularly in Joseph’s life) and our own experiences, it seems that God’s ways of redemption and salvation never seem to come the way we think they should. Why do you think that is?
Read Galatians 5:16-26
How do we see the Spirit of God work in Joseph’s life to produce the fruit of God?
The way we bear fruit is not by focusing on trying to bear fruit, but by abiding in and staying connected to Christ. We stay connected to Christ by being devoted to:
- His word
- Prayer
- Community
- Remembering the gospel and how He changed your life
- Living on mission
Does the fruit in your life reflect a devotion to these things, or a devotion to the world?
Joseph was given a gift from God to interpret dreams, and every person in our church has a purpose to use the gifts God has given them to strengthen the faith of others. Spend some time talking about where each person in your group feels gifted and where you see each other’s gifting.
Helpful way to think about gifting and serving in the church:
Affinity - What your passionate about
Ability - What your naturally good at
Affirmation - where others recognize that God is using you
