                              Clarity Week 11

                               Genesis 17-20

Clarity

CGL Notes: We live in a world where everyone has an opinion about life and how it should work. Many opinions about what’s right and what’s wrong. We also live in a world where everyone seems to have a platform to voice their opinions. This brings confusion in our world but in the midst of confusion, God’s Word brings clarity! In a world with many voices, we are letting God’s voice speak the loudest!

Prayer

On Sunday, we introduced 1 of 10 potential unreached people groups that our missionaries could eventually engage in Indonesia - the Bengkulu (BAHNG-koo-loo). Throughout April, we want to intentionally focus our prayers to the Bengkulu on Sundays and in our small groups. Start your group off by praying together for this people group! Below is some information on the Bengkulu and prayer prompts.

Prayer for the Unreached People Group

You are the Lord, and that is your name! I pray your glory not be given to another. I pray that the Bengkulu people will not give your praise to idols. Isaiah 42:8

Lord, send missionaries to declare your glory among the Bengkulu people, Your marvelous deeds among the Bengkulu people. Psalm 96:3

Lord, I pray that “all the Bengkulu people you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; I pray the Bengkulu people will bring glory to Your name.” Psalm 86:9

Lord, may You be exalted over all the Bengkulu people, Your glory above the heavens. Psalm 113:4

Question Bank

Exclamation Triangle  Remember, you don't have to use each question! Since we are covering a few chapters, it would probably work best to read one chapter, see what stands out to your group (use the questions as needed), then read the next chapter, and so on.

Read Genesis 17

God changes Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s to Sarah. What does this say about how God reshapes identity when He saves us? How has your identity been reshaped by your relationship with God?

Abraham and Sarah struggle to believe God’s promise because of their old age. When have you found it difficult to trust God’s timing in your life? How did you respond?

Read Genesis 18

What does Abraham’s boldness to intercede for Sodom reveal about his understanding of God’s character? Why do you think he felt confident enough to question and plead with God?

How does Abraham’s example teach us to care for and pray for people who aren’t following God? What can we learn from his attitude?

Is there someone in your life you could pray for like Abraham did for Sodom? What would that look like this week? (Who’s Your One Guide plug) What usually holds you back from praying boldly for others?

Read Chapter 19

Lot chose to live in Sodom, a place filled with sin, and it put him in a tough spot—he had to choose between protecting his guests or his family. What does this reveal about how sin effects us and those around us? How have you seen God redeem situations like this?

How do you see the balance of God’s justice and mercy in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? How should this shape our understanding of God’s character?

Read Chapter 20

Even after God’s promises, Abraham again lies about Sarah being his sister in Genesis 20. What does this show us about our weakness and God’s continued faithfulness? How has God remained faithful to you even when you’ve fallen short?
