Romans 14

CGL Notes: In a Church with many different backgrounds and many different struggles and opinions Paul reminds us of the importance of keeping the Gospel essential and moving towards one another in love. He reminds the Church in Rome that it is not ok to judge and condemn brothers and sisters for exercising their biblical freedoms the right way. Don’t call sin what God does not call sin. However, He also reminds others not to despise others who feel convicted about the freedoms that they enjoy. Put your brother and sister above your freedoms and liberties.

Read ch 14

What does this passage teach us about God and His desire for unity in the Church?

What is the difference between judgment/Condemnation and Biblical Accountability?

How have you seen or experienced people in the Church judge other brothers and sisters in the Church without a scriptural basis? Why is it important to keep the Gospel above our preferences and opinions?

How have you seen or experienced people in the Church care more about their freedoms than they do other brothers and sisters who struggle with the things they enjoy? Why is it important to put others before ourselves? How did Paul and Jesus do this in their lives?

Why is it important to yield to the Holy Spirit through obeying Scripture and following your personal convictions instead of acting against your conscious when it comes to freedoms and liberties?  How could satan use freedoms/liberties as a stumbling block in your life? Give some examples.
