Jesus Teaches Love :    

The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that Jesus told these parables to teach about God’s love. God sent Jesus so sinners can be forgiven. As Savior, Jesus loves and seeks sinners. He paid the ultimate price—His own life—to save people from sin.

  

MEMORY VERSE: 

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power

    and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,

    for everything in heaven and earth is yours.

Yours, LORD, is the kingdom;

    you are exalted as head over all.”


1 Chronicles 29:11


Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.


STEP 1. GATHER!

Use this time to begin Family Worship Night and have fun!


For Fun

Visit a public park to play hide-and-seek as a family. Give each person the opportunity to seek those who are hiding. After the game, read Luke 19:10 and talk about God’s plan to send Jesus to give His life to save sinners like us. 


To Serve

Schedule time to volunteer at a local animal shelter. Spend time cleaning, feeding, or playing games with the animals. After serving, talk about how each of those animals is waiting to be adopted. Read Galatians 4:4-5 and explain that anyone who believes in Jesus is saved from sin and adopted into the family of God


STEP 2. WORSHIP!



  • Sing and have fun while worshiping then pray. Take a moment here to thank God for your family and your time together!!

Elementary:



Use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story. 


Preschool Discussion:

  • •Lots of people followed Jesus around. One day, Jesus went up on a mountain. He sat down and began to teach about God’s kingdom. 
  • •Jesus said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the humble, for the earth will be theirs. 
  • •Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for what is right, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 
  • •Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called God’s children. Blessed are those who are mistreated for doing what is right, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.” 
  • •Then Jesus taught that people who believe in Him should live like a light in a dark world. “Let your light shine. Those who see what you do will praise God,” Jesus said. 
  • •Jesus said, “Love your enemies and pray for them.” We can be like God by loving everyone. 


Elementary Discussion:

  • According to a recent survey, the average American spends two and a half days each year looking for lost items. The item lost most often is the TV remote. Did you check under the couch cushion? 
  • The Bible says that Jesus came “to seek and to save the lost," but Scripture isn’t talking about a lost TV remote! Jesus came to save people who are lost. To be lost means to not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. This means that every one of us is born lost and desperately in need to be found by Jesus. 
  • This week, we learned about the parable of the lost sheep, the parable of lost coin, and the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Each of these parables show us God’s love for people who are lost. The parables teach us how much God wants to bring lost people back to Himself. In fact, God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus into the world on a rescue mission to save sinners and offer forgiveness to anyone who believes in Him. 
  • Jesus told these parables to teach about God’s love. God sent Jesus so sinners can be forgiven. As Savior, Jesus loves and seeks sinners. He paid the ultimate price—His own life—to save people from sin. 

 


Mission Moment


Tell your family that over half of the people living in Cincinnati do not regularly go to any church.

SAY Amer and Victoria Safadi are missionaries in Cincinnati partnering with Lakota Hills Baptist Church to tell the Arabic-speaking people in the area about Jesus. The church has helped the missionaries by allowing the Arabic-language church to use their buildings, offered food for ministries, and showed love to the missionary family and the new church. The church also offers English classes to help people who want to learn English. The English classes give the missionaries and church members opportunities to tell the people about Jesus.

Pray that the Safadis continue to meet and get to know the Arabic-speaking people in Cincinnati. Pray that their church will continue to grow to tell more people in their community about Jesus.

  • Pray: God, thank You for loving us so much that You would send Jesus to rescue us from sin. Help us to know Jesus and trust in Him as our Savior and our Lord. Amen.
