My life can tell of God’s wonder
The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that God created a good world. Most special of all, He made humans in His image, but sin kept people from living as God made them. But Jesus changes everything. Through Him, we are invited into God’s family!
MEMORY VERSE:
“You are God’s special treasure.” 1 Peter 2:9a
Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.
STEP 1. GATHER!
Ahead of time, designate one side of the room as the “God’s Family” side and the other side of the room as the “Earthly Family” side. Point out each side to the kids.
We’re going to play a game where I will say a phrase, and if it describes something that’s part of being in God’s family, you’ll run to the “God’s Family” side of the room. If it describes something that’s a part of an earthly family, you’ll run to the other side of the room. Remember that the earthly family things aren’t bad things!
Read the following phrases and pause after each phrase to encourage the kids to run to either side of the room. You can instruct them to go back to the middle of the room after each phrase, or they can simply stay where they are.
- Trust Jesus as my Savior (God’s family)
- Have a little sister (earthly family)
- Become a child of God (God’s family)
- Go on a family picnic (earthly family)
- Become adopted into God’s family (God’s family)
- Holy Spirit comes into my heart (God’s family)
- Celebrate a birthday with a grandparent (earthly family)
- Live with God forever (God’s family)
- Have a family movie night (earthly family)
- Freed by God to do what is right instead of trapped doing wrong things (God’s family)
- Get to be a messenger of God to the world as a child of God (God’s family)
- Parents adopt a brother or sister (earthly family)
- Become filled by the Holy Spirit (God’s family)
- Be freed from sin and live the way God created me to be (God’s family)
- Allow kids to respond by running to either leader. Our Wonder Truth for today says God wants us to listen to wisdom. Leader 1 was speaking with wisdom!
There are so many great things that happen when we are a part of God’s family! We can celebrate that God invites us to be a part of His family!
STEP 2. READ THE BIBLE AND WORSHIP
STEP 3. DISCUSSION !
Use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.

- How do you know God loves you?
- How can someone become a part of the family of God?
- If you love God, why? What is it about God that you love?
- What is something good about being a part of God’s family?
- What is one way you can share God’s wonder?
We all have times when we need to ask God for help and listen to what He says. God wants us to listen to Wisdom.
Mission Moment
C. T. Studd
(1860-193I)
Do you have a favorite sport? Football? Tennis? Maybe cricket? In England, a hundred and fifty years ago, cricket was the favorite sport. If you were good at cricket you were a hero - and C. T. Studd was the best cricketer in the whole country! C. T. was Jesus' friend, but he was so busy playing cricket and being rich and famous that he sometimes forgot he was Jesus' friend at all.
Then, one day, C. T.'s brother nearly died. C. T. realized that his brother would not last forever; cricket would not last forever; fame and fortune would not last forever; only his friend Jesus would last forever: So C. T. decided to live his life telling people about Jesus. He gave up cricket; he gave up fame; he even gave away all his money - and went to China to tell people about Jesus.
He was very lIl and came home to England. His friends thought he would stay and rest, and be safe and comfortable - but C. T. wanted to keep telling people about Jesus. He went to India to tell people about Jesus there. He was very ill again and came home - maybe this time he would stay, But C. T. went to the very middle of Africa to tell people there about his friend Jesus. He knew that being Jesus friend was better than fame, fortune and even cricket.
STEP 5. Pray!
