FAITHFUL
The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that God brings the Israelites to Mount Sinai to make a covenant—or unbreakable promise— with them. He gives them His good commandments so the world will know they are His set-apart people.
MEMORY VERSE:
“Know that the Lord your God is God, He is the faithful God.” Duet 7:9
Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.
STEP 1. GATHER!
Play Moses says
Play with the rules of “Simon Says”
After the game say “When God gave the 10 Commandments to Moses to give to the people, it was not a game, and God’s laws were good laws. But, at times, each of us fails to follow God’s laws. That’s why we need the forgiveness Jesus offers us. We can thank God for Jesus, for His forgiveness, and for the way His Holy Spirit helps us to follow God. God set His people apart by issuing special laws through Moses. Today, God sets His people apart through faith in Jesus.”
STEP 2. READ THE BIBLE AND WORSHIP
Sing and have fun while worshiping then pray. Take a moment here to thank God for your family and your time together!!
STEP 3. DISCUSSION !
Watch the Bible Story video, and use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.
Mission Moment
Charles Wesley
(1707-1788)
Do you like singing songs at Christmas? Which is your favorite? Jingle bells is fun, but the songs about baby Jesus are better! one of the most famous songs about baby Jesus was written by Charles Wesley. He wrote "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" nearly three hundred years ago, and millions of Jesus’ friends still sing it every year to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.
Charles, like his brother John Wesley, grew up thinking that if he was really good and went to church a lot Jesus might want to be his friend.
When he found out that Jesus loved him so much already that he died on the cross for him, Charles was so happy. He was so happy that the very next day he wrote another of his famous songs, "And Can It Be" to show how brilliant it was to be Jesus’ friend.
Charles, like John, traveled all over the place telling people about Jesus. But when he traveled Charles wrote songs too - Christmas songs. Easter songs, happy songs and sad songs. Every song was all about his friend Jesus. Every song helped people love and trust Jesus more.
Every song helped people think about Jesus as they sang together at church, home, work, school. No wonder we still sing his songs today!
STEP 5. Pray!
