RISEN

The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that God’s Son, Jesus, is arrested, put on trial, and crucified. But after three days, He comes back to life! Jesus forgives our sins, saves us, and gives us new life.

MEMORY VERSE:

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5

Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.

STEP 1. GATHER!

  • SUPPLIES: disposable cups (10), plastic eggs, basket, disposable bowls (optional, 10)
  • Fill a basket with empty plastic eggs. Gather kids together in front of the cups in a cross shape. Today is a special day, and we’re talking about something very important. These eggs are empty! This is a clue for what we’re talking about. Does anyone have any ideas? Allow kids to answer. Yes! We are learning about when Jesus rose from the tomb! Have kids stand close to the bottom of the cross and toss eggs into the cups. Great job getting the eggs in the cups! Part of the story we’re going to explore today has to do with a cross and how Jesus is alive. We can celebrate that Jesus is risen!

STEP 2. READ THE BIBLE AND WORSHIP

Sing and have fun while worshiping then pray. Take a moment here to thank God for your family and your time together!!

STEP 3. DISCUSSION !

Watch the Bible Story video, and use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.

REVIEW THE BIBLE STORY

Use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.

  • In our story, who wanted Jesus to die?
  • What happened right after Jesus died?
  • Who told the women that Jesus is alive?
  • Why did Jesus die on the cross?
  • What do you want to say to Jesus after hearing this story?
  • Who is someone you can share the good news with that Jesus is alive?

Jesus died on the cross and came back to life again. That’s what we celebrate on Easter. But it’s also the most important thing that has ever happened! Jesus is risen! It changes everything. Because Jesus died and rose again, we can be with God forever. Let’s talk to God and thank Him for sending Jesus.

Mission Moment

Katie Luther

(1499-1552)

All moms are really special, aren't they? What's special about your mom? Her cooking? Her caring? Her cuddles?

Katie Luther never knew her mom - she died When Katie was a little girl. Katie thought she would never be a mom either. Katie was a nun.

À nun is someone who has said she will never marry or have children and who lives in a big house with other nuns. When Katie lived, people thought you could only be Jesus' special friend if you didn't get married or have children.

Then Katie found out from the Bible that she could be Jesus' special friend whether she was a nun or not, whether she was married or not, and whether she had children or not. So Katie got married to Martin Luther. He was a very busy and important man. She looked after him when he was well, when he was ill, when he was happy and When he was grumpy. They had six children. She looked after them when they were well, happy and grumpy. Lots of people lived with them, stayed with them and visited them. She looked after all of them too. She cooked, cleaned and cared for them all. She even ran her own farm and made her own beer!

Kate showed her family and friends that she loved her friend Jesus by loving them too.

STEP 5. Pray!

Ask kids to share any prayer requests or praises they have. Encourage them to share reasons they are thankful for Jesus. Guide kids who are comfortable to take turns praying out loud, and explain that God hears them, no matter what. Remind kids to thank Jesus for paying the price for our sins so that we can be with God forever.
