Family Worship

RISEN

The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that Jesus rides a donkey into Jerusalem as people praise Him by shouting, “Hosanna!” Jesus doesn’t look like a normal king, but He saves those who call to Him. He saves them from the powers of sin and death.

MEMORY VERSE:

Jesus forgives our sins, saves us, and gives us new life. —from Titus 3:5

Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.

STEP 1. GATHER!

  • You’ll need: cup, vinegar (½ cup), baking soda (1 tbsp), tray
  • Count to three with the kids and on the count of three, place a tablespoon of baking soda into the cup with vinegar. This should create a reaction that bubbles over outside the cup. Encourage kids to “erupt with praise” as the cup overflows.

STEP 2. READ THE BIBLE AND WORSHIP

STEP 3. DISCUSSION !

Use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.

REVIEW THE BIBLE STORY

  • What animal did Jesus tell the disciples to find and bring to Him? (donkey colt)
  • What word did the people call out as Jesus rode into town? What does it mean? (Hosanna, which means “Save us.”)
  • Why did the people celebrate Jesus as He came into town? (They thought He was a king coming to save them.)
  • What did people wave as Jesus rode into Jerusalem? (palm branches)
  • What did people lay down on the road in front of Jesus? (coats and palm branches)
  • How can we praise Jesus today? (by following His commandments, thanking Him for His goodness and love, worshiping Him with song, sharing His love with others)

God sent Jesus to earth to save us. We can praise Him as our King today. Let’s talk to God now in prayer and thank Him for Jesus!

Mission Moment

Eric Liddell

(1902-1945)

Are you a fast runner? God makes some people who can run fast and some people who can't. Sometimes, like on sports day at school, it can seem that running fast is the most important thing in the world.

It isn't really - it is much more important to be Jesus’ friend and live for him.

Eric Liddell was a very, very fast runner. He was the fastest runner in the world and won a gold medal at the Olympic Games. He loved running, but he loved his friend Jesus even more! Because Eric was a good runner people wanted to listen to what he said. Eric told them about Jesus.

Eric was a famous man, but he went to China - a country a long way away - where nobody had even heard of him. He wanted to tell the people there about Jesus too. It was a very dangerous place to be.

There was fighting and Eric was put in prison. It was horrid, but Eric how had more people to tell about Jesus. Eric was cold and hungry and soon he became very ll, but he always knew that Jesus was looking after him.

When Eric died people said how great he was because he could run fast. Eric knew that it was much greater to be Jesus' friend and tell people all about him.

STEP 5. Pray!

Father God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to earth as our King. Help us always worship Him as our King. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessing: May you go out today remembering that Jesus is your King. Worship Him in everything you do and everywhere you go. Never forget God’s love for you—the love He displayed by sending Jesus to earth.
