TRANSFORMED

The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that Jesus appears to the disciples on the day of His resurrection and gives them the Holy Spirit to help them believe. Thomas is absent and won’t believe until he too sees and touches Jesus.

MEMORY VERSE:

Don’t copy the ways of the world. Let God transform you. Romans 12:2

Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.

STEP 1. GATHER!

  • Play I Spy
  • Choose an item that is easy for the kids to identify, then the phrase “I spy something …” and share the color. Once a child guesses the right item, allow him to choose another object and give a clue with the “I spy something …” phrase.

STEP 2. READ THE BIBLE AND WORSHIP

STEP 3. DISCUSSION !

Use these questions and points to have a conversation with your children about the Bible story.

REVIEW THE BIBLE STORY

  • Which disciple didn’t see Jesus at first? (Thomas)
  • What did Thomas want to see on Jesus’ hands? (the scars)
  • How do you think the disciples felt when they saw Jesus again? (surprised, amazed, happy)
  • Who gave the disciples the Holy Spirit? (Jesus)
  • What does the Holy Spirit help us do? (believe in Jesus)
  • Is it easy for you to believe that Jesus is alive and that He is powerful? Why or why not?
  • How have you discovered truths about God by using one of your senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, or smell)?

Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit when we trust in Him as our Savior. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God with the followers of Jesus. Even though we can’t see, touch, or smell Jesus right now like His disciples could, the Holy Spirit helps us believe! Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins. When we believe in Him, the Holy Spirit is with us. Let’s talk to God now in prayer, thanking Him that the Holy Spirit helps us believe in Jesus.

Mission Moment

Martin Luther 1483-1546

It’s great being Jesus" friend isn't it? It's great to know that he loves you and forgives you even when you haven't been a very good friend to him. Martin Luther wanted to be Jesus' friend but he didn't know how.

The people in charge of the church in Luther's country, Germany and in all the other countries had got it wrong and said that to be Jesus" friend you had to do everything they said and never do bad things. Martin tried and tried but he still did bad things we all do!

Then Martin looked in his Bible. In those days the Bible was written in an old language, but Martin was clever and he could read it. He read that Jesus died to take away the bad things that he did. He read that he could be Jesus’ friend if he asked Jesus to forgive him for those bad things. He was so happy. Martin told the people in charge of the church that they were wrong:That made them very cross. They tried to stop Martin.

But Martin wanted everybody to know how they could be Jesus’ friends too. He didn't stop. He was very brave. tie put the Bible in his language. He wrote books and songs and letters. Soon whole countries had churches Where they could find out how to be Jesus’ friends.

Thank you, God. for Martin Luther!

STEP 5. Pray!

God, thank You for forgiving us when we sin and for sending Your Son, Jesus, to die on a cross to take the punishment for us so we can spend forever with You in heaven! We celebrate You and praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessing: May you live with joy knowing that Jesus is alive and with us! He died for you and rose again because He loves you!

Blessing: May the Holy Spirit help you know this week that Jesus is alive and that He loves you. May your week be filled with sounds, sights, tastes, touches, and smells that remind you of God.
